David Pellikaan for Mayor

David Pellikaan Announces Priorities for Mayor of Abbotsford
A Practical Plan for a Stronger, Safer and More Responsible Abbotsford
ABBOTSFORD, BC — September 28, 2026 — Mayoral FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Abbotsford has tremendous potential. We have a strong agricultural sector, successful local businesses and a great community. My goal is to build on those strengths while making sure City government is financially responsible and responsive to residents."
GROW THE LOCAL ECONOMY
Pellikaan will focus on business retention and expansion, attracting new investment and improving economic development strategies.
He also supports strengthening Abbotsford's agricultural economy by encouraging appropriate food processing, value-added production and cold-storage expansions on agricultural land, supporting the berry, vegetable, greenhouse and other agricultural sectors.
Pellikaan also supports practical solutions for on-farm housing for agricultural workers, including temporary and foreign agricultural workers.
GET THE CITY BUDGET ON TRACK
Pellikaan believes tax payers deserve maximum value for every tax dollar.
His priorities include reviewing City spending and services, identifying efficiencies, considering alternatives to the current financial plan, and minimizing tax increases while protecting essential services.
"Before asking residents to pay more, we need to make sure we are getting the best possible value from the money we already collect."
IMPROVE OUR NEIGHBOURHOODS
Pellikaan will focus on practical solutions to affordable housing, homelessness and crime, while working with residents, police, fire services and community organizations.
He will also support improvements to roads, dykes, drainage, sewer and water infrastructure, trails, bicycle lanes, public transit, parks, recreation, sports and cultural programs.
BUILD A MORE RESPONSIVE CITY
Pellikaan supports updating Abbotsford's emergency response plans for floods, earthquakes, wildfires and other disasters.
He also wants to improve communication with residents and businesses, address commercial truck parking, support practical healthcare initiatives, and streamline building permits while maintaining appropriate safety and planning standards.
"Building communities takes hard work”. I want to listen to residents, work with our business and agricultural communities, and make practical decisions that move Abbotsford forward."
Address commercial truck parking
Support practical solutions to the ongoing shortage of appropriate parking for large semitrucks, dump trucks, and other commercial vehicles.
Seek solutions that balance the needs of businesses, residents, neighborhoods, and road safety.
Make it easier to build
Support initiatives that help expedite building permits while maintaining appropriate safety, planning, and regulatory standards.
Look for opportunities to streamline City processes and reduce unnecessary delays for homeowners, businesses, and developers.
BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY TAKES HARD WORK — I NEED YOUR HELP
I believe our city can be economically stronger, financially responsible, safer, and more responsive to the people who live, work, and invest here.
